All
dog-training classes are run by Cara Lukins with the assistance
of her husband,
Shane. Cara
has been training dogs
since 1995 and also worked as a Veterinary Nurse from 1993 until
2008 in both general practice, and as an
Emergency Veterinary Nurse at a leading After Hours Emergency
Vet Hospital in Sydney.
She is a
CGC Delta Accredited Canine Behavioural Trainer, and has had
experience with
most breeds of dogs including her own. Her Labrador, Kibah who
unfortuately passed away in July 2007 was one of the reasons
Cara became so passionate and interested in dog training, after
she caught the training bug when Kibah was just a puppy. Her
other dog is a
Rottweiler called Ally who was a stray picked up while working
as a Veterinary Nurse. Ally had a very bad start in life and
was just 19kg when Cara took her on (as a guide an adult Rottweiler
should be between 30 & 45 kg!). Ally came with a multitude
of problems that have slowly been managed over the years and
she is now a (fairly) well adjusted 10 year old lady! Cara
has also helped train her her mum’s
Golden Retriever, Meggie, when she is visiting and brothers
Labrador, Champion. She has also recently got a new Labrador
puppy called Maya who it 10 months old and who Cara is
busy training!
Cara was a member
and Instructor of a local dog training club in Sydney for seven
years; the last two years were spent
as
a chief instructor,
where she was responsible for training new instructors,
arranging
guest speakers and organizing classes. She has competed in agility
and obedience competitions and gained her C.D.X title with Kibah.
She was also a member of the Massed Obedience Demonstration at
the Royal Easter Show for seven years. Cara and her family have
recently moved and settled in Cooma NSW where she is keen to
continue with her dog training.
Cara has had experience
training dogs for TV and advertising as well as for local misicals.
In fact Kibah was in many T.V and magazine advertisements
and also appeared
as
the canine star in a number of musicals
(playing Sandy—the dog, in 3 versions of the musical “Annie”!)
Cara is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and attends
seminars and lectures by world-renowned animal trainers regularly
to keep up to date with the most modern techniques in dog training.
