Puppy
Classes are designed to socialise and train puppies at the
crucial stage
of a dogs
life - between 8 and 16
weeks. Anything a dog experiences in the first few months of its
life will
shape the puppy into the dog it will be for the rest of its life.
During this time, a puppy is more likely to accept new experiences
and be willing to explore new challenges.If the socialising the
dog experiences during this time is fun, the puppy will become
a happy, confident adult dog. However, if no socialising is done,
or
if the socialising is frightening or not fun, then the puppy may
become a scared, unconfident adult dog which may lead to aggression.
Therefore the more "good" socialising that is done with
a puppy this early stage of its life will be of benefit to the
dog and
its lowner
for the rest of its life.
During our Puppy Classes we aim to:
- Socialise puppies and enable them to learn natural dogs behaviours
and body languages (see picture below);
- Teach the pup basic manners using a positive fun method. We
teach puppies to sit; come; lie down; stay; leave it; wait for
food and walk nicely on the lead;
- Help owners with problems they may be having with their puppy,
such as toilet training, chewing, play biting, jumping up and
digging;
- Teach owners about dog behaviour and body language;
- Give owners advice on healthcare grooming and nutrition.
Our puppy classes
run as a 4 week course and each class runs for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Puppies must be between 8 - 16 weeks and bookings are essential
as no more than
8 puppies are taken for a class. |
